What a COA actually tells you.
A COA is the analytical report issued for a specific production batch. It documents what was tested, how, and the result, so a researcher can confirm identity and purity before use.
- 01
HPLC for purity
High-performance liquid chromatography separates a sample into its components. The area of the target peak relative to all peaks is reported as purity (%).
- 02
Mass spectrometry for identity
MS measures the molecular mass of the sample, confirming it matches the expected compound rather than a related sequence or by-product.
- 03
Third-party laboratory
Testing is performed by an independent analytical lab, not in-house, and each certificate is matched to the batch number printed on the vial.
- 04
How to read one
Check the compound name and batch number match your vial, note the methods used, confirm the purity and identity results, then the test date and issuing lab.
